The Living Vine maternity home is a Christian ministry which is answering
God's call to minister to women in crisis pregnancies who are open to Him
and have a willingness for Him to change their lives. Our vision is to
provide a safe and loving environment for the mother and her unborn child
while working on the deeply emotional issues that got her to that point
of crisis in her life. We realize that just providing food, clothing and
shelter, without God's healing, is like putting a band-aid on cancer and
sending the patient back into the world. Our hearts' desire is to see each
woman come to personally know Jesus Christ in His fullness, so that when
she leaves us, she has found forgiveness and healing and a desire to follow
God's direction for her life.
Some women find that placing their babies for adoption is the right answer, while others choose to keep their babies. The decision is hers. All we know is thast when the situation is placed in God's hands, the answer is always correct. The sorrow that brings women to us can be, and is turned into joy. The name "The Living Vine" comes from John 15:5, where Jesus tells us He is the Vine and we are the branches. Without Him that's all we are --- just dried-up, dead branches, but with Him, The Vine, we are His living branches, bearing His fruit. |
If someone had taken you on a tour of our building before renovation
began in January 1996, you would never have thought that this place could
actually be "a home." It looked very institutional. Originally, this building
was used as a children's home, then later, as a maternity home known as
The Florence Crittendon Home. After The Crittendon Home
closed, the building was taken over by Parent and Child, an agency of the United Way. It was used for storage, and became extremely run down. It was dark, damp, and roach infested! But God had a plan for this building. In the months that followed the initial renovation date, in January 1996, God used many people, churches, and organizations, to accomplish His plan. Countless hours of hard work and sacrifice went into this ministry. Sunday School classes and groups at various churches in the area, sponsored a room to decorate. This was a gigantic job!!! But all of their love and work can clearly be seen in the beautiful home we now have. The transformation was tremendous! The Living Vine is approximately 10,000 square feet with six very large resident bedrooms and five staff bedrooms/suites; definitely room enough to house fourteen girls and five staff members. We also have a beautiful Learning Center where the girls work to continue their education and spiritual growth to help them prepare for their futures. |
Residents spend 15 hours a week in the home's learning center focusing
on spiritual growth and intimacy with God. In addition to the 15 hours
per week of spiritual growth, residents work with a state certified teacher
who is on staff to continue their academic goals.

The entire annual budget of $220,000 is raised through private contributions
from individuals, churches and civic organizations. No state or federal
funds are accepted.
Although the home depends upon the generous financial support of individuals and groups, we need your prayer support even more. Please pray for The Living Vine on a regular basis. Pray for our staff, our Board of Directors, our fund-raising efforts and especially for the young women and babies whose lives are touched by this ministry. For those who can give financially, all donations are needed and greatly appreciated. Special occasions for giving my be the birth of a child, the memory of a loved one or to honor someone you hold in high esteem. The Living Vine Guild is a fundraising arm and support network of this ministry. They provide part of our on-going financial needs by overseeing projects throughout the year. (Thrift sales, cookbook sales, Christmas Open House, craft sales, fashion shows, etc.) For a $25.00 annual fee you can become a member of the Guild entitling you to a newsletter, annual events calendar, and an opportunity to fellowship with others and serve the needs of The Living Vine in a vital, personal way.
